Spring Reset for Moms: Recharge Your Batteries After Winter
We all know it — by the end of winter we’re exhausted from endless runny noses and coughs, from the stress of wondering whether the kids will be able to go to kindergarten or if illness will knock them down again. Getting dressed is more complicated than in summer, and it’s not so easy to keep children entertained with a full day of running outside. On top of that, we’ve been missing sunshine and warmth, so our energy is running low. It’s high time to recharge our batteries! Don’t have the chance to escape for a wellness weekend? Steal at least a little time for yourself at home and treat yourself to some relaxation and pampering.
Home Beauty Salon
Treat your skin and hair to some spring care at home. After winter, they need nourishment and a fresh boost. You’ll only need a few ingredients you can easily find in your kitchen.
- Oat Scrub to Wake Up Your Skin
Make a paste from fine oats, honey, and a little water or yogurt. Massage it onto a damp face and then rinse off.
- Honey Brightening Mask
Mix honey, yogurt, and a little lemon juice.
- Avocado Mask for Dry Skin
Mash a ripe avocado and add honey and olive oil.
- Homemade Rose Toner for Hydration
Did you receive roses for International Women’s Day? When they start to wilt, pour 200 ml of hot water over a handful of petals, cover, and let them steep until cool. Then strain and use on your skin. Pour the remaining rose water into a clean jar and store it in the fridge for later.
Your hands have also been through a lot during winter. How can you make them soft again? Apply a mask made from plain yogurt and honey. Or rub them with slightly warmed olive oil and put on plastic gloves for half an hour.
And how should you care for your hair after winter? Use a mask made from honey and olive or coconut oil. To help prevent split ends, add mashed banana; for strong, shiny hair, add an egg.

Use Nature as Your Charger
Did you feel like staying indoors most of the winter? Now is the time to make up for it. Spring air and sunshine will recharge you with new energy. Go for a walk whenever possible. Don’t be shy — head outside and exercise.
If you want to take full advantage of nature’s spring energy and try a little magic, you can briefly step into a flowing stream on the day of the spring equinox. Let the flowing water carry away all fatigue, worries, and the gloomy winter season. Feel how fresh, cool water brings new strength into your body.
You may have started exercising thanks to your New Year’s resolutions. Try adding yoga routines to stimulate lymph flow or experiment with qigong, which teaches you how to work with your life energy.
Have You Heard of Forest Bathing?
Japanese scientists studied how walking in the forest affects us and developed a method to turn an ordinary walk into a therapeutic experience that improves metabolism, cardiovascular health, mental well-being, and even reduces the risk of cancer.
How to do it?
- leave your phone, smartwatch, and similar devices at home
- go alone and focus on yourself and nature
- don’t set a destination or follow hiking trails — leave the paths
- let nature guide you intuitively and don’t control your steps
- turn off directed thoughts and notice sounds, scents, and details around you
Sounds simple and obvious, right? Are you sure…? You might be surprised when you actually try to follow all of this. If you want to perfect your forest meditation, take one more recommendation from Japanese researchers to heart: walk through nature with mindful respect.

Fuel for Your Body
Give your body special spring nutrition from the inside as well. Gradually lighten your diet. If you feel ready, you can also try a short fast or a vegetable day.
Don’t forget that the sun is still not strong enough. That means it’s still important to supplement vitamin D. Spring fatigue can also be helped by vitamin B, iron, magnesium, or reishi mushroom. Add green superfoods such as chlorella, spirulina, and barley grass.
The power of herbs will continue to grow as spring progresses. Be sure to include milk thistle and dandelion to support your liver, as well as nettle, which cleanses the blood and helps detoxify the body.
Support a Positive Mood
Did you skip your New Year reflection? Write down what you’re looking forward to in the future, how you would like to grow, and what you’d like to experience. Take a moment, close your eyes, and imagine a movie of your future where everything you wish for comes true. There’s no need to doubt that it will happen soon ;-) But even now, there are surely many wonderful things in your life for which you can feel grateful. Sometimes we take them for granted or don’t even notice them. But if you think about it, you’ll find these joys in your life — and they will give you strength for the days ahead.
Spring is a wonderful opportunity to start again with lightness and joy. Take time for yourself, draw strength from nature, and enjoy every day to the fullest. And most importantly — remember that happy moms have happy kids!
